UI: ZIK HALL’S BALCONY IS FALLING DOWN

Nnamdi Azikwe Hall's falling balcony in the University of Ibadan, Ibadan.

At the Nnamdi Azikwe Hall, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, and prior to the sudden break/lockdown of schools, a balcony support was falling off.

What could be seen in this picture are the bamboo trees used to support the falling balcony.

For years, welfare system for the students of the University of Ibadan has been eyesore from poor room facilities to very poor toilet, yet Prof. Olayinka Idowu, the incumbent Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, has increased the accommodation fee from 14,000 Naira (fourteen thousand Naira) to 30,000 (thirty thousand Naira) without any significant improvement in the living conditions of students of the University of Ibadan.

However, the increased accommodation fee has not been commensurate with the facilities at the hostels in the institution.

Prof. Olayinka also suspended the Students’ Union, its President, Mr. Ojo Aderemi, among others for asking paid-for identity cards by the University of Ibadan, though the authorities of the University of Ibadan had justified the delayed release of Identity cards to students in 2017.

The Conscience Post is interested in the welfare/healthcare situation of the people during a corona virus lockdown. Thus, this medium showcases where government, its agents or officials have failed or are failing to provide adequate facilities to the people.
