The members of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) assaulted a staff member whose name could not be identified as at press time, at the main gate of the University of Ibadan, today.
The assault was due to refusal of a vehicle owner to reverse to allow movement of vehicles at the main gate of the University.
The staff unions had last Friday embarked on an indefinite industrial strike action to demand arrears they are owed by the government among other demands.
It would be recalled that similar incident occurred where Dr. Demola Lewis and the staff members had a face-off leading to forceful opening of a locked gate.
The victim was first weeped several times with a cane by a non-academic staff member.
A footage obtained by The Conscience Post showed the NASU, SSANU members running towards the staff member.
In the process, he was beaten until he was rescued by others and warned to stay away from the main gate where the members were demonstrating.
However, during the last Friday Congress by the Unions, Mr. Akinremi said the main gate leading to the institution would not be blocked.
